Economic Updates – Baghdad
Major General Jassim Yahya, the security coordinator for the Prime Minister’s Office, announced on Saturday the reopening of critical roadways in Baghdad, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion within the capital.
In a statement, Yahya highlighted that several roads, which had been closed since 2003, are now open. These roads include the route from the Rashid Hotel towards the Nine Gates, as well as the road leading from the Republic Bridge to the Al-Shawaf intersection and further to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs intersection, continuing towards the Muthanna Airport road. Additionally, the opposite lane from Gate 17, or the Oman intersection, has been opened towards the House of Representatives, extending to the Al-Shawaf intersection, then Fadel Al-Jamali, and ultimately to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Yahya further indicated the reopening of a side road parallel to the grave of the late Khaled Al-Rahhal, who established the Monument of the Unknown Soldier. Also, the service road towards Celebration Square has been opened to facilitate traffic flow from Gate No. 9, which connects to Al-Muthanna Airport and leads towards Al-Qadisiyah.
Looking ahead, Yahya mentioned the anticipated opening of a new road before the Nurseries Bridge on the Qadisiyah road, located after the Federal Police headquarters, leading toward Qahtan Square. This roadway will include four exit lanes towards Qahtan Square to further ease traffic congestion. He emphasized that these infrastructure projects will open successively in the near future.
