Meeting of the Higher Committee for Reconstruction and Investment
Baghdad – February 9, 2025
Prime Minister Muhammad Shi’a Al-Sudani convened a significant meeting today, focusing on the activities and progress of the Higher Committee for Reconstruction and Investment. This session concentrated on ongoing investment initiatives, emphasizing the completion of investment opportunities not only in Baghdad but throughout Iraq.
Key Decisions
According to an official statement, the meeting yielded several important decisions pertaining to investment projects across various sectors, including industry, housing, and services. Notably, the committee approved housing projects specifically designed for employees of the Ministry of Defense in both Basra and Nineveh.
Additionally, the meeting culminated in the approval of a revised model designed to enhance the general benefits from investment. This model particularly pertains to the state’s share in new housing units within emerging urban developments. The committee sanctioned a method for investors to execute service projects associated with infrastructure, aligned with the valuation of the government’s designated share.
In a notable first application of this model, the implementation of projects aimed at upgrading and expanding streets in Sadr City, located to the east of Baghdad, has been prioritized.
Future Developments
The committee also addressed the establishment of a new headquarters for the Union of Arab Historians in Baghdad. The Prime Minister instructed his team to expediently resolve this matter, ensuring the proposed headquarters will be appropriate regarding its area, location, and architectural design.
The ongoing efforts outlined during this meeting are pivotal for advancing Iraq’s reconstruction and investment landscape, with a keen focus on infrastructure and housing development.
