The Ministry of Planning has announced a new initiative concerning nomadic Bedouins, confirming that the process of differentiating population data is ongoing.
According to Makki Ghazi Al-Muhammadi, Deputy Head of the Statistics and Geographical Information Systems Authority within the ministry, special teams have been trained and deployed to areas inhabited by Bedouins, which include the governorates of Nineveh, Najaf, Anbar, Dhi Qar, Al-Muthanna, and Al-Qadisiyah. These teams will utilize a systematic approach during their visits to conduct inventories and collect data, accounting for the unique security challenges and environmental conditions inherent in these regions. This encompasses desert-dwelling Bedouins, fodder lines in Mosul, and various marshland areas, thereby allowing for comprehensive data collection within a single field visit.
Al-Muhammadi further noted, “The data is currently being differentiated based on its characteristics. Following this separation, information will be categorized according to specific groups such as Bedouins, Lunar Line, Drivers, and regions classified as high-risk, particularly between certain governorates like Baghdad and Diyala.”
