Rain Boosts Wheat and Barley Irrigation in Central Iraq

Economic Insights – Baghdad

On Monday, the Ministry of Agriculture reported that recent rainfall has significantly supported the irrigation requirements for wheat and barley crops, particularly in the central and southern provinces of Iraq.

Undersecretary Mahdi Sahar stated that the recent rainfall event was particularly substantial in central and southern regions, while lighter rain was noted across most northern provinces. He emphasized, “This timely rain has fully irrigated both wheat and barley crops in these regions, contributing positively to groundwater replenishment, especially due to significant runoff from Saudi Arabia and Iran.”
