Iraq’s Water Storage Boosted by 300M Cubic Meters of Rain

Economic Update – Baghdad

The Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, announced today that recent rainfall has bolstered water storage levels by 300 million cubic meters.

Dhiab stated, “The recent rains have significantly benefited Iraq, providing complete irrigation across the region, thus alleviating the farmers’ need for additional irrigation. This enhanced irrigation is valuable both qualitatively and quantitatively.”

The Minister highlighted that, “Following the rainfall, the Ministry of Water Resources has reduced water releases, resulting in decreased water flow from the north to the south. This has effectively increased the storage capacity in our dams and reservoirs.” He elaborated, “From the recent rains, we have gained 100 million cubic meters in dams, 100 million cubic meters in Lake Tharatrah, and 100 million cubic meters in the marshlands.”

“We remain hopeful for further rainfall soon, with forecasts suggesting additional rain in April. Our efforts are focused on enhancing water storage to meet the demands of the upcoming summer,” he added.
