Ministry of Agriculture Sets Conditions for Poultry Entry from Kurdistan Region
On Saturday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced new regulations concerning the entry of poultry and associated products from the Kurdistan region. The Ministry emphasized that monitoring and investigative teams are actively conducting field assessments in various markets and retail outlets selling chicken and home-raised poultry.
Regulatory Framework
Thamer Habib Hamza Al-Khafaji, the Director General of the Veterinary Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, stated that the entry of poultry from the Kurdistan region will be prohibited until laboratory results confirm that poultry products are free from avian influenza. Al-Khafaji underscored the importance of this measure for safeguarding public health and maintaining the integrity of the livestock sector.
Ongoing Monitoring and Health Checks
The investigative teams are on the ground in veterinary hospitals across several governorates that border the Kurdistan region, including Nineveh, Salahuddin, Kirkuk, and Diyala. These teams are monitoring market activities related to the sale of poultry and employing rapid testing methods to swiftly identify any potential health risks.
Additionally, the teams are scrutinizing the issuance of veterinary health certificates, which are essential for the transport of poultry, ensuring compliance with health protocols. This initiative aims to protect the domestic livestock sector from infectious diseases while bolstering support for local products.
