External Transfers Dominate 91% of Iraq's Central Bank Sales

Economic Update – Baghdad

The Ministry of Electricity has announced that energy production is projected to reach 27,000 megawatts next summer, with 75 percent of its maintenance program expected to be completed.

According to Mohamed Neama, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity for Production Affairs, the total electrical energy output will achieve this target following the successful execution of the maintenance programs scheduled for this season. Neama confirmed that over 75 percent of the maintenance initiatives have been fulfilled, ensuring that power stations will be operationally ready for the upcoming summer.

Neama emphasized the current demand for electrical energy ranges between 32,000 and 35,000 megawatts, indicating a shortfall between production and demand. To address this gap, the ministry is actively pursuing investment opportunities to establish both steam and gas plants, as well as renewable energy facilities.

Furthermore, Neama noted that bridging this energy gap also involves public collaboration through the rationalization of electricity consumption. The Ministry is committed to taking all necessary measures to ensure the availability of electrical energy.
