Iraqi Parliament’s Oil and Gas Committee to Address Kurdistan Region Oil Export Challenges
The Iraqi Parliament’s Oil and Gas Committee is set to convene a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Oil and a supervisory team responsible for the budget law’s implementation. This session aims to address the pressing topic of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region and identify the associated challenges.
Zurgham Maliki, a member of the committee, announced that the meeting is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Tuesday. The discussion will be led by Bassem Mohammed Khazair, the Deputy Minister of Oil for Extradition Affairs, along with the Ministry’s specialized team tasked with overseeing the implementation of the amendments to the Iraqi General Budget Law.
Maliki emphasized, “The meeting will focus on two primary issues: the export of oil from the Kurdistan Region and the obstacles that impede this process.”
On February 2, 2025, the Iraqi parliament enacted the first amendment to the three-year budget law, which resulted in the dissolution of Article 12 and the introduction of a new draft law. This amendment is particularly relevant to the production, transportation, and delivery of oil in the Kurdistan Region. It sets a provisional cost of $16 per barrel for production and transportation until an international consulting firm determines a market price within 60 days.
