Economy News – Follow-Up
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has issued a critical alert regarding the alarming shortage of water in the Gaza Strip. Currently, only 10% of the population has access to safe drinking water, leaving 90% without this essential resource.
UNICEF official in Gaza, Rosalia Paulin, reported, “In November 2024, 600,000 individuals regained access to drinking water, but this supply was subsequently cut off again.”
According to estimates by United Nations agencies, approximately 1.8 million people—over half of whom are children—are in dire need of water, sanitation, and health services. The situation has worsened following the decision to halt electricity supply to the region, which has severely disrupted biomus desalination operations.
