Turkish Oil Company Expands Operations in North Kurdistan

The Turkish Oil Company (TO) has formalized an agreement aimed at the development of gas and oil resources in Amed province, located in North Kurdistan. This announcement was made by Alparslan Bayraktar, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, during his attendance at the Cerweek Conference held in the United States on March 12, 2025.

Bayraktar emphasized the significance of the collaboration, stating, “Continental Resources is the largest oil production company in the United States, and Transatlantic Petroleum has been operational in Turkey for 17 years. Turkish oil firms have reached an agreement with both companies to engage in production activities in the Diyarbakir region’s gas and oil sectors.”

Under the terms of this agreement, TO, along with Continental Resources and Transatlantic Petroleum, will work collaboratively to develop the oil and gas fields in Amed. The consortium is also expected to provide strategic insights and information to the Turkish government as part of the project framework.

This agreement marks a significant step in enhancing Turkey’s energy production capabilities while strengthening partnerships with established companies in the global oil and gas industry.
