Hamid Kassar Al-Zobai, a member of the Parliamentary Energy and Electricity Committee, asserted on Sunday that the Ministry of Electricity lacks a viable strategy for tackling the ongoing electricity crisis.
Al-Zobai remarked, “The Ministry of Electricity is currently confined to reactive measures regarding the electricity crisis, and we are approaching a particularly hot summer.”
He further explained that “efforts to generate electricity from alternative energy sources will take many years to realize the goals of clean energy,” highlighting that “Iraq has invested billions of dollars yet continues to face electricity shortages.”
Al-Zobai emphasized that “the electricity crisis did not emerge this summer; it has persisted since 2003, primarily due to poor management and a lack of an effective policy by the Ministry of Electricity.”
