Ministry of Commerce Announces Food Basket Distribution Ahead of Ramadan

The Ministry of Commerce has announced a new initiative for the distribution of a food basket prior to the onset of Ramadan. In its efforts to stabilize food prices during this significant period, the ministry has also confirmed the establishment of monitoring teams.

According to Ministry spokesperson Mohamed Hanoun, the distribution of the food basket will begin on February 20. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in maintaining food price stability in local markets throughout the holy month.

Food Security and Price Stabilization

Hanoun emphasized the importance of the food basket in enhancing food security among citizens, noting that Iraq has emerged as one of the more stable countries in terms of food availability both regionally and globally. He stated, "The food basket is instrumental in supporting low-income families, allowing them access to necessary food items, and significantly contributing to the stabilization of food prices in local markets in preparation for Ramadan."

Preventive Measures Ahead of Ramadan

In light of the approaching month of Ramadan, the Ministry of Commerce has implemented a series of measures aimed at sustaining local food price stability. This includes closely monitoring and reviewing market prices in collaboration with teams from national security and the organized crime department within the Ministry of Interior. Hanoun explained, "These teams are working alongside merchants to ensure that prices remain in line with the purchasing power of the citizens."

Through these measures, the Ministry of Commerce aims to meet the needs of its population while ensuring that essential food items remain accessible and affordable during Ramadan.
