Continued Electricity Exports to Iraq

The Chief Executive Officer of the Iranian National Electricity Company (Tawer) confirmed that electricity exports to Iraq are ongoing, in accordance with the existing contract between the two nations.

“Given the contractual obligations for electricity exports to Iraq, we will maintain the current importation of electricity from Iran,” he stated, underscoring the timeline associated with this agreement.

He added: “While electricity exports to Iraq will proceed, our primary focus remains on ensuring adequate electricity supply for domestic needs.”

The CEO explained that electricity exports occur during off-peak periods and are executed in alignment with contractual commitments.

Concerning the financial aspect, he noted that Iran is in the process of receiving payments for the electricity exported to Iraq. “Following negotiations, both parties have agreed that outstanding debts from previous months will be settled promptly, with a portion of these payments already made last month,” he stated.

Furthermore, Rajabi Mashhadi disclosed that discussions regarding electricity trade are also in progress with Türkiye and Russia, with advancements expected shortly.
