A delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is anticipated to visit Lebanon in March, as disclosed by Lebanese Finance Minister Yassin Jaber on February 18. This mission will be pivotal as Lebanon seeks to address its ongoing economic challenges.
Minister Jaber noted that he met with the IMF resident representative in Beirut, emphasizing the government’s commitment to advancing the reform process. This engagement is a critical element in Lebanon’s strategy to negotiate a new program with the IMF, focused on alleviating the public debt crisis.
The Lebanese government has stressed that achieving economic recovery is contingent upon restructuring the banking sector. Additionally, in a recent ministerial statement, the government underscored that a comprehensive plan will prioritize deposits, while also reaffirming its commitment to resume oil and gas exploration operations.
