Government Measures to Control Food Prices During Ramadan
The Parliamentary Economy and Trade Committee has confirmed that recent government interventions have effectively deterred price manipulation during the holy month of Ramadan.
Committee member Muhammad Radi stated that the government has implemented various strategies aimed at stabilizing prices of essential food items throughout this period. Radi emphasized the government’s success in preventing price hikes, which had been a recurring issue in previous years due to unethical practices by certain merchants.
Radi noted the rigorous oversight of market conditions by relevant authorities, which has been pivotal in mitigating any price manipulation. He also mentioned an initiative to ensure the availability of a comprehensive food package that covers the majority of family necessities.
Coordinated Efforts for Market Oversight
On a related note, the National Security Agency launched an extensive supervisory campaign to monitor market prices and protect consumer interests. This initiative was enacted in collaboration with the Department of Commercial and Financial Control from the Ministry of Commerce, the Health Control Division of the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Agriculture.
According to a statement from the National Security Agency, the campaign is designed to not only track pricing fluctuations but also to address potential exploitation of citizens and to verify the safety and quality of food products for human consumption. The initiative also includes an awareness component aimed at educating citizens on reporting any price discrepancies, operational through a dedicated hotline.
The ongoing campaign will persist throughout the Ramadan period, focusing on maintaining price stability and ensuring the availability of safe food items for the populace.
Food Safety Monitoring
Furthermore, the National Security Agency reported significant achievements in the month of February, having successfully seized 218 tons of expired food deemed unsuitable for consumption. These items were confiscated and disposed of in accordance with established regulatory protocols, as part of the agency’s broader commitment to safeguarding the nation’s food security.
The combined efforts reflect a comprehensive approach to ensure fair pricing and food safety during a crucial time for consumers.
