Baghdad Launches ‘National Taxi’ Project to Transform Transport

Economic Update – Baghdad

The Special Transport Directorate, part of the Ministry of Transport, has announced the initiation of several kiosks in Baghdad as part of the “National Taxi” project.

According to Maitham Al-Safi, Director of Media in the Transport Administration, the establishment of these kiosks aims to enhance the national taxi initiative. Their primary role is to register the vehicles operating within Baghdad.

Al-Safi remarked, “The national taxi project serves as an electronic platform initiated by the Ministry of Transport for the benefit of citizens.” He highlighted key features of the platform, including a rating system that allows citizens to evaluate taxi owners and vice versa, designed to identify the most compliant and reliable vehicle operators.

Additionally, Al-Safi emphasized the provision of specific services for taxi owners at these kiosks, which includes vehicle documentation and oil renewal. He encouraged private transport companies to participate in this initiative.

Last year, the Ministry of Transport launched the ambitious “National Taxi” project aimed at organizing the transportation sector and enhancing service accessibility for citizens in Baghdad and other regions.

This project features a dedicated electronic application encompassing all taxi services across Baghdad and other governorates. A significant advantage of this initiative is its potential to mitigate the issue of private car congestion.
