The Pharmacists Syndicate announced today that it has made significant progress on the pricing of medicines in the private sector, a long-anticipated initiative aimed at ensuring safe and fairly priced pharmaceuticals. The Syndicate emphasized the importance of sourcing medications and nutritional supplements through reliable means and with a prescription to safeguard public health.
“The initiative for pricing medicines within the private sector has been in development since 2017, when the Syndicate first proposed this comprehensive pricing strategy. Over the years, concerted efforts have been made to bring this project to fruition, with the current stage reflecting substantial advancements,” a representative stated.
The new pricing framework will not only bolster the national pharmaceutical industry but will also facilitate the systematic pricing, examination, and registration of all medicines available in the private market.
Implementing this pricing system, however, is a complex process that demands collaborative efforts among various governmental bodies, particularly the Ministry of Health and the Health Authority, alongside the involvement of the Syndicates of Pharmacists and Doctors as well as security agencies to prevent the infiltration of unregistered medications.
These collective efforts are focused on serving the public interest by ensuring access to safe, effective, and equitably priced medications.
Regarding the issue of certain medications and nutritional supplements being distributed without prescriptions, which poses significant health risks, the Syndicate acknowledged ongoing concerns raised by the Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities.
While the Pharmacists Syndicate does not hold direct regulatory power over this issue, it is actively collaborating with competent authorities to identify and implement effective solutions.
Many products, particularly those found in fitness centers, elude rigorous oversight, underscoring the need for decisive actions to guarantee that all medications and supplements conform to health standards and that they are dispensed only through pharmacies officially sanctioned by the Syndicate.
Additionally, the Syndicate underscored the necessity of educating the populace on the importance of obtaining medications and nutritional supplements from trustworthy sources to ensure their health safety.
