Electronic Payments Surge: Iraq’s Fuel Sales Hit 742 Billion Dinars

Significant Growth in Fuel Sales via Electronic Payment in January

The Director of the Oil Products Distribution Company, Mr. Hussein Talib Abboud, recently announced a remarkable achievement in fuel sales through electronic payment systems, noting that sales exceeded 742 billion dinars in January alone.

Commitment to Automation and Electronic Payments

Mr. Talib emphasized the company’s dedication to the government initiative aimed at modernizing operations through automation. Since its inception in April 2023, the electronic payment project has been successfully implemented, making it the first government enterprise to adopt such technology. The initiative is being executed in two primary phases: the first phase ensures that fuel is made available to all sectors at 100%, while the second phase, scheduled for June, will facilitate the provision of fuel at distribution outlets for citizens, thereby effectively phasing out paper payments.

Expanding the Reach of Electronic Payment Services

Talib further highlighted the broadening scope of electronic payment options, which now encompasses a wide range of entities including both government and private gas stations, agents of gas and white oil, as well as distribution mechanisms for agricultural equipment, gas arenas, and fuel cards for white oil. This initiative reflects the company’s strategy to integrate modern payment solutions across various sectors within the fuel distribution landscape.
