Sanaa Province: A Key Contributor to Iran’s Gold Production
Kamal Hosseini, Director General of the Coordination of Investment and Jobs in Sanaa province, has stated that this region is poised to produce an astounding 50% of Iran’s gold output. He highlighted that the province has an annual gold production of approximately five tons, establishing it as the leading area for gold mining in the country.
Hosseini pointed out that Sanaa province houses four major gold mines, notably Sarigone’s gold mine in Qorveh, as well as mines in Saqiz and Cameroon. The mineral wealth of the province extends beyond gold, with reports indicating the presence of 18 different types of metals across 209 operational mineral units.
Earlier commentary from Sanaa Governor Aras Lahoni emphasized that the province’s metallic reserves exceed one billion tons. He urged the Iranian government to enhance investment efforts in the region’s mining sector to fully leverage this potential.
Iran ranks among the top global gold producers, with its mining operations situated in various provinces including Urmia, Sanaa, East Kurdistan, East Azerbaijan, Razavi Khorasan, South Khorasan, Sistan and Baluchestan, Semnan, and Zanjan. The Iranian Mines Development and Renovation Directorate estimates that the gold reserves in the nation’s mines stand at around 300 tons.
This focus on mining in Sanaa not only underscores the province’s economic significance but also highlights the broader potential for growth within Iran’s mineral sector. Further investments could amplify both production levels and the province’s contribution to the national economy.
