Economic Development in Iraq

Farhan Al-Fartousi, the General Manager of the General Company for Iraq Ports, announced significant advancements in the infrastructure project connecting the Grand Port with Umm Qasr.

In a recent statement, Al-Fartousi noted that the construction of the road linking these vital points is progressing steadily, with an impressive overall completion rate of 97% for the project.

He detailed that the initial layer of the road has been finalized on the Al-Faw side, followed by the completion of the second layer. Currently, work is ongoing on parts of the third layer, which encompasses 9 km of the secondary leg and 26 km of the primary leg.

Turning to the road project originating from Umm Qasr, Al-Fartousi stated that the first layer has been fully completed, with further work scheduled for the second layer, alongside the completion of the third layer.

Furthermore, he pointed out that all safety wall construction is finished along both directions of the road, along with the installation of lighting fixtures between the city of Al-Faw and the submerged tunnel, as well as essential traffic signals.

The constructed road spans three corridors across a total length of 62 km. It includes three dosers (a tent), two bridges, and an intersection, which collectively aim to enhance land transport efficiency and streamline shipping and unloading operations at the port.

This project is recognized as a strategic initiative that enhances the efficiency of Iraq’s transportation infrastructure. It underscores the Ministry of Transport’s commitment to improving and increasing the competitiveness of Iraqi ports on both regional and international fronts, marking it as one of the most significant projects associated with the Grand Port.
