Baghdad’s Fuel Sales Soar to 742 Billion Dinars via E-Payments

Economy Update – Baghdad

The oil products distribution company announced today, Thursday, a significant increase in fuel sales facilitated by the electronic payment service, with revenues surpassing 742 billion dinars in January.

The company’s director, Hussein Talib Abboud, stated that the organization remains committed to advancing the government’s agenda through the automation of its operations. He highlighted the successful implementation of the electronic payment initiative, which marks the company’s position as the first state institution to adopt this system since its inception in April 2023.

The project is being executed in two phases: the first aims to ensure complete fuel availability across all sectors, while the second phase focuses on facilitating fuel access for citizens at distribution outlets, expected to complete by June, alongside the gradual phase-out of paper payment methods.

Talib also noted that the expansion of the electronic payment system includes governmental and private fuel stations, dealers of gas and white oil, generators, agricultural machinery, gas filling stations, as well as fuel cards, heating systems, and related services in the private sector.

As of March 22, 2024, the Ministry of Oil – Oil Distribution Company initiated the provision of “Super and Chist” fuels for vehicles, enabled through POS electronic payment cards, across all governorates.
