Baghdad’s Governor, Abdul Muttalib Al-Alawi, announced on Tuesday a series of new projects aimed at enhancing the city’s infrastructure and developing urban areas. This initiative marks a significant step in positioning Baghdad as a key player in both economic and tourism sectors.
Al-Alawi highlighted that Baghdad aims to become a hub for cultural, tourism, and economic activities. He expressed optimism that the capital will emerge as a focal point for tourism and cultural engagement, driving economic growth at a level that is expected to surpass regional competitors. He referenced studies that underline Baghdad’s potential due to its rich historical and cultural heritage.
The governor outlined several initiatives set for implementation this year, including substantial infrastructure enhancements and investment opportunities. Notable projects include the development of an urban city in Baghdad and the rehabilitation of the Akkovov city plan, as well as enhancements to the Baghdad forests in Nahrawan to promote them as attractive destinations. The efforts extend beyond urban development to include the preservation and promotion of historical sites and monuments throughout Baghdad.
Additionally, Al-Alawi pointed to Baghdad’s diverse tourist attractions, encompassing religious, entertainment, cultural, and archaeological sites. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure that Baghdad fulfills its vision of becoming the capital of Arab tourism.
