Baghdad Targets 27,000 MW Energy Production by Next Summer

Baghdad Aims for 27,000 Megawatts Energy Production by Next Summer

The Ministry of Electricity has announced that energy production is projected to reach 27,000 megawatts during the upcoming summer season. This development follows the completion of 75% of the maintenance program for electrical stations.

Mohamed Neama, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity for Production Affairs, elaborated on the situation, indicating that the current demand for electricity ranges from 32,000 to 35,000 megawatts. This creates a significant gap between production and demand, which the Ministry aims to address through various investment opportunities. These opportunities include the establishment of new steam and gas stations, as well as renewable energy facilities.

Neama emphasized that bridging this demand-supply gap will require cooperation from citizens, particularly in the area of energy conservation. He assured that the Ministry would strive to provide adequate electrical energy resources.

The initiatives outlined by the Ministry underscore a proactive approach to improving Iraq’s energy infrastructure and addressing the critical energy needs of its population.

Key Projections for Iraq’s Energy Sector

Energy Production Projected Figure
Total Energy Production 27,000 megawatts
Current Demand Range 32,000 – 35,000 megawatts
Maintenance Completion 75%

This strategic focus underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing energy reliability and sustainability for the country as it prepares for the upcoming summer demand.
