Iraq and Turkey to Boost Electricity Supply to 600 MW

Iraqi and Turkish Energy Ministers Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

On Sunday, Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadel engaged with Turkish Energy Minister Alp Arslan Bayrakdar in Baghdad. The meeting, which also included Turkish Ambassador Anil Bora Inan, focused on enhancing cooperation within the energy sector and improving the electrical connection between Iraq and Turkey.

Minister Fadel stated that the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity is prepared to increase energy supplies through the Iraqi-Turkish interconnection line to an impressive 600 megawatts. To ensure the effective execution of this initiative, he proposed the establishment of a joint high-level technical committee to oversee the agreements.

Minister Bayrakdar, for his part, conveyed that the forthcoming months will see a doubling of energy supplies through the connected line, emphasizing Turkey’s commitment to fortifying its collaboration with Iraq in energy matters.

It is important to note that the joint electrical connection line, known as Kisk – 400 K.C., became operational in July and currently provides Iraq with 300 megawatts of power.

Minister Bayrakdar’s visit to Baghdad also included a meeting with Hayyan Abdul-Ghani, the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and the Iraqi Oil Minister, further underscoring the importance of this bilateral relationship in the energy sector.
