Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs Leads Iraqi-Turkish Committee Meeting

On March 6, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs Hayyan Abdul Ghani presided over a significant meeting aimed at advancing the initiatives of the Iraqi-Turkish Committee, particularly concerning water and oil sectors.

The Ministry of Oil’s media office issued a statement outlining the minister’s focus during the session, highlighting the committee members’ participation from various Iraqi ministries. The discussions underscored the critical importance of addressing water and oil issues, specifically advocating for the activation of the water file to secure Iraq’s equitable share of water resources.

Abdul Ghani also emphasized the need to enhance oil export operations via the pipeline extending to the Turkish port of Jihan, indicating potential for increased exports from Basra’s oil fields.

In addition to discussions on oil and water, the agenda included topics related to energy, education, border ports, communications, and commercial exchange, as well as sports and youth initiatives. The meeting concluded with a consensus on the necessity of fulfilling technical requirements for the committees and strengthening collaborative efforts with the Turkish side to align with Iraq’s national interests.
