Recent judicial documents reveal that Elon Musk does not hold an official position within the “government competence management” and lacks the authority to make government-related decisions. This information stems from a filing submitted by Joshua Fischer, director of the Management Office.
Musk, who is recognized as one of the wealthiest individuals globally, has been informally leading the “government competence management,” an initiative established by former President Donald Trump. The initiative intends to substantially decrease government expenditures, which includes the elimination of numerous federal positions.
In November, Trump asserted, “Elon Musk, the Great … will lead the administration of government efficiency.”
Fischer’s judicial document clarifies that Musk operates as a private, non-permanent government employee and serves in an advisory capacity to the president. The document emphasizes, “Like other high-level consultants in the White House, Mr. Musk does not possess any official authority to unilaterally make government decisions.”
Fischer further explained, “The American DOGE service is a part of the President’s Executive Office. The temporary service organization associated with the US DOGE Service is distinct from the White House.” He confirmed that Musk is not an employee of the American DOGE service nor its temporary organization and that he does not hold the position of temporary director.
This document was prompted by legal actions taken by 14 states against Musk, including New Mexico.
Trump is expected to defend Musk in an upcoming interview, countering critics who claim that Musk operates the White House. Trump remarked, “I think no one in history has worked harder to distort his image than me … but do you know what I learned from Elon? It is that people are smart and comprehend what is happening,” to which he added affirmatively.
