Iraq’s Oil Minister Warns: Iranian Gas Imports Strain National Finances and Energy Stability

The Minister of Oil, Hayyan Abdul-Ghani, has highlighted the significant financial drain on Iraq due to the country’s reliance on gas imports from Iran.

Abdul-Ghani elaborated that the supply of Iranian gas is frequently disrupted or delivered in reduced quantities, a situation stemming from Iran’s unique circumstances. This unreliability has a direct impact on Iraq’s electricity generation, thereby intensifying strain on the national energy infrastructure. He emphasized the necessity for Iraq to undertake substantial measures to identify alternative solutions that would ensure stable energy supplies and mitigate dependency on imported gas.
