Economy News – Follow-up
In light of recent incidents raising concerns over safety standards, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy has asserted that Boeing Manufacturing Company is facing significant challenges in regaining public trust. This comes following a notable air emergency incident involving a new Boeing 737 Max in January 2024, which echoes two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019.
Secretary Duffy further indicated that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is not prepared to increase the monthly production limit for the aircraft, which currently stands at 38 units.
“When you betray the confidence of the American people concerning safety and manufacturing quality, we will exert pressure to ensure that your practices are revised and align with proper standards,” said Duffy following his visit to the Boeing 737 production facility in Washington.
Boeing has been embroiled in a series of safety-related controversies, notably including an incident last year when a new Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 experienced mid-air failure, prompting stricter oversight from the FAA.
The aforementioned incident has resulted in the FAA imposing more stringent controls over Boeing’s operations.
