Increase in Exports through Urmia Province Border Crossings

The province of Urmia has witnessed a substantial 62 percent increase in exports via its customs and border crossings over the past ten months, translating to a total export value of $4.1 billion.
Khalid Jangju, the customs director for Urmia province in East Kurdistan, disclosed these statistics during a report on January 30, 2025. The figures indicate that over 4.9 million tons of goods were exported from Urmia’s customs and border facilities during this period.
Of the total export value, $1.6 billion comprised domestic products from Urmia, while $2.5 billion reflected increased revenues compared to the previous year. In terms of volume, exports rose by 26 percent, underscoring a robust boost in both price and weight metrics.
Urmia province shares borders with Turkey, the Nakhchivan region of Azerbaijan, and the Kurdistan Region, with a significant portion of its exports directed towards Turkey and the Kurdistan Region. The province operates six official border crossings, three of which—Commercial, Razi, and Sero—facilitate trade with North Kurdistan and Turkey.
