Dia El-Din Nazim, Technical Advisor to the Prime Minister, recently provided an update on the strategic infrastructure projects underway in Maysan Governorate, highlighting their completion status and upcoming milestones.
Nazim indicated that the bridges and tunnels project, spanning approximately 500 meters in length and 18 meters in width, comprises two substantial bridges measuring 640 meters and 485 meters respectively, along with over 4,000 meters of internal and service roads. He noted that the project is 97% complete and is expected to be inaugurated during Ramadan or shortly thereafter.
This initiative is part of a broader set of federal projects initiated under the direction of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, which includes the construction of five bridges across the Tigris River in Maysan Governorate. Notably, this plan encompasses a bridge located within the province, as well as the oil role bridge, the Al-Mazbaniya Bridge north of Amara, a bridge at Qalaa Saleh, the Saida Bridge, and the Abdullah bin Ali Bridge.
Additionally, Nazim outlined plans to construct two new roads: the Maymouna-Sayed Ahmed Al-Rifai road, which connects to Dhi Qar Governorate, and the second Sayyid road (Al-Islah – Al-Salam), also linked to Dhi Qar. The developments will include the rehabilitation of older roads, such as the Battira – Al-Fajr and Shayb – Al-Amara routes.
He further elaborated on several strategic projects aimed at addressing water and sewage infrastructure deficiencies. The plan includes the execution of six water projects, featuring a power liberalization station with an 8,000 cubic meters per hour capacity, along with eight sewage pumping stations servicing administrative units within established sewage networks, extending from Al-Azir to the Al-Gharbi district.
The total estimated cost for these projects, as directed by the Prime Minister, stands at approximately 2.2 trillion Iraqi dinars.
