Trade Relations between Turkey and Iraq: Key Insights from 2022 Data
According to data from the Turkey-Iraq Business Council, Iraq ranked fifth in terms of import volume from Turkey last year.
Halid Ajar, the President of the Turkey-Iraq Business Council, reported that trade negotiations between Turkey and Iraq reached a total of $20 billion in the previous year, with an ambitious target of expanding this figure to $30 billion in the current year.
Data from the Turkish Exporters Assembly indicates that Turkey’s exports to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region saw an increase of 9.8% last year, amounting to $10.698 billion.
In 2024, the predominant categories of exports included goods valued at $2.147 billion, primarily consisting of products from Istanbul and Mersin in Turkey, alongside Duhok, Mardin, and Şırnak from northern Kurdistan.
Moreover, Istanbul has been identified as the leading exporter to the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, accounting for $3.089 billion worth of exports.
