The Syrian transitional government has officially stated that it has not engaged in negotiations with Iraq or Saudi Arabia regarding oil imports. Furthermore, it has denied any discussions concerning the longstanding oil pipeline connecting these nations.
Ahmed Suleiman, the Director of Public Relations at the Syrian Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources, emphasized that “there are currently no negotiations with Iraq or Saudi Arabia to import oil, as the Ministry opts for crude imports through tenders to secure the best options for reliable supply within established contractual terms.”
Additionally, Suleiman noted that “the Iraqi pipeline requires rehabilitation, an issue that remains unaddressed at present.” He further clarified that “there have been no discussions between Iraqi and Syrian officials regarding the activation of the joint pipeline, which is currently not a priority for either country.”
