Business and Economic Developments – Baghdad
On Monday, the Supreme Council of Youth approved the establishment of development and economic business incubators aimed at fostering economic opportunities for the youth.
During the seventh meeting of the Supreme Youth Council, chaired by Prime Minister Mohamed Shi’a Al-Sudani, various agenda topics were discussed, leading to critical decisions being made.
The Council has agreed to establish four incubators in Baghdad and two in each governorate, collectively referred to as “safe economic spaces for youth.” Additionally, it was determined that the national youth team focused on climate change will be expanded to include 2,000 members.
In an effort to support and enhance entrepreneurial initiatives, the Council agreed to create the “Iraq Forum for Young Business Pioneers.” This forum will consist of 500 young entrepreneurs who will represent their peers and engage with decision-makers to facilitate youth access to the private sector.
To promote inclusivity, special priority will be given to individuals with disabilities in the appointment of officials and departmental roles. Coordination committees alongside the Supreme Youth Council will be established to enhance support for these individuals through the “Standing Committee for the Support and Welfare of Youth,” which will be linked to the relevant minister and operate in conjunction with the Supreme Council of Youth.
Moreover, the government is set to launch a national campaign to raise awareness about the development plan, including the preparation of definitions and training programs related to this initiative.
The Council has also approved the results of the national competition for youth programs, as well as the annual plan for 2025 submitted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports for local youth and sports directorates. Furthermore, the Financial Supervision Bureau has been directed to compile a report on investments in youth and sports facilities, which will be reviewed for appropriate decision-making.
Additionally, the discussion included an examination of the Youth Development Index in alignment with the World Youth Development Index for 2024, following the establishment of the Supreme Council for Youth and the associated programs that were initiated.
