Sudanese Unveils 14 Projects to Revitalize Sinjar and Nineveh Plain

Economic Developments in Iraq

Prime Minister Mohamed Shi’a Al-Sudani has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to restoring infrastructure for displaced communities in Sinjar and the Nineveh Plain.

In a televised announcement, the Prime Minister unveiled the commencement of 14 infrastructure rehabilitation projects within the initial phase, with an allocated budget of 18 billion dinars. These initiatives aim at reconstructing and enhancing major roadways that connect various areas and villages throughout the Sinjar district and the Nineveh Plain.

As stated by the Prime Minister, these projects, financed through the Emaar Sinjar and Plain Fund, represent a crucial component of the government’s strategic vision to implement a series of developmental initiatives targeting the reconstruction of the Sinjar district, the Nineveh Plain, Sadat Zamar, and Al-Qahtaniya regions. These areas have previously suffered extensive damage due to systematic attacks by ISIS.

The Prime Minister acknowledged the significant contributions from the governor of Nineveh, administrative unit leaders, the fund’s head, and all personnel involved in launching these projects. He also indicated that a subsequent phase will expand to include additional projects addressing remaining regions.

Furthermore, Al-Sudani noted that the sacrifices endured by the residents of Sinjar and the Nineveh Plain in their confrontation against ISIS, coupled with the injustices faced under the former regime, instigated the government’s establishment of a dedicated fund for these areas, integrated within the broader governmental program. He emphasized the government’s commitment to resolving the displacement crisis, enhancing conditions to facilitate the return of these communities, and ensuring a dignified living standard. This also entails implementing an emergency plan to address immediate needs in water, electricity, education, and healthcare sectors.

The Prime Minister highlighted the plans to execute significant projects, such as the establishment of the University of Sinjar, stressing the importance of inter-ministerial cooperation and coordination with service departments and administrative units to minimize conflicts and avoid project obstructions. He pointed out that the Sinjar and Nineveh Plain regions possess the necessary natural resources to evolve into economic hubs that foster development and create job opportunities.
