On Monday, Prime Minister Mohamed Shi’a Al-Sudani issued a directive to the Ministry of Electricity to establish technical contracts for the solar energy project.
The Prime Minister’s Media Office reported that Al-Sudani led a meeting focused on the technical elements and innovative solutions regarding the implementation of the solar energy initiative. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Electricity, members of the National Team for Smart Solutions and Renewable Energy, as well as several provincial governors and advisors to the Prime Minister.
During the session, a review of existing energy systems and their productivity was conducted, emphasizing the integration of solar energy systems alongside smart standards and collection methods.
The discussion also highlighted the role of the private sector in the management of energy generation projects across various governorates. This collaboration will occur under the oversight of local authorities, in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity, which will handle the procurement of generated energy and monitor pricing, costs, and private sector operations, stressing the need for effective collection based on established smart standards.
In his remarks, the Prime Minister instructed provincial authorities to expedite the preparation of land for these projects to facilitate private sector participation. He requested that they outline priority areas and compile a list of companies and investors interested in the solar energy initiative.
Furthermore, Al-Sudani directed the Ministry of Electricity to swiftly develop technical contracts adhering to specific criteria and streamlined processes. These contracts are to be finalized and presented to the Council of Ministers for approval.
