Strengthening Ties: Iraq and Egypt Sign 12 Key Agreements to Boost Cooperation

Egypt-Iraq Supreme Committee Advances Bilateral Cooperation in Baghdad

The Egyptian-Iraqi Supreme Committee convened its third session in Baghdad, chaired by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and his Egyptian counterpart, Mustafa Madbouly, who arrived in the capital for this significant meeting. Participants included Minister of Commerce Daoud Al-Ghuiri and Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat, who highlighted the extensive cooperation initiatives between the two nations across various sectors.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the minutes were formally recorded and a series of memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed to reinforce bilateral ties. The following agreements were established:

Memoranda of Understanding Signed:

  1. A memorandum of understanding for land transport of people and goods between Iraq and Egypt’s ministries of transport.
  2. A memorandum of understanding to enhance competition and combat monopolistic practices between Iraq’s Council of Competitions and Monopolies and Egypt’s Competition Protection Agency.
  3. A proposed cooperation protocol focusing on local development initiatives.
  4. A memorandum of understanding between the Baghdad Municipality and Cairo Governorate.
  5. A memorandum of understanding aimed at collaboration in antiquities and museums between Iraq’s General Authority for Antiquities and Heritage and the Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities.
  6. A memorandum of understanding for standard measurement and control between Iraq’s Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control and Egypt’s General Authority for Standardization and Quality.
  7. A memorandum of understanding to enhance regulation and oversight of financial markets, involving Iraq’s Securities Authority and Egypt’s General Authority for Financial Supervision.
  8. An executive program extending from 2025 to 2027 between the ministries of culture in both countries.
  9. A memorandum of understanding between the Iraqi Books and Documentation House and the Egyptian Books House.
  10. A memorandum of understanding focusing on communications and information technology between Iraq’s Media and Communications Authority and Egypt’s National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority.
  11. A draft memorandum of understanding for the construction, operation, and maintenance of silos between the General Company for Iraqi Grain Trade and the Egyptian Holding Company for Silos.
  12. A memorandum of understanding for collaboration between the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce and the General Union of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce.
