Federal Integrity Commission Takes Action Against Corruption in Karbala
On Sunday, the Federal Integrity Commission reported the arrest of six individuals implicated in a case involving the misappropriation of public funds in Karbala province. According to the authority’s announcement, the individuals arrested, who were engaged in the heat and maintenance sector of the Euphrates project, conspired with an employee from the Electricity Department and the son of one of the suspects to purchase stolen electrical materials associated with a project within the Free Sector aimed at alleviating bottlenecks.
The accused reportedly intended to deposit these materials into the store of one of the site locations. They falsely claimed that the items were surplus materials that had not been utilized in the project, thus attempting to mislead the ministerial committee responsible for the administrative investigation. During the operation, authorities seized locomotives loaded with columns and significant quantities of Pulleys from Kibl Dhafira, leading to the arrest of the aforementioned employee, the son of the implicated accused, and three tribal drivers.
Furthermore, the Karbala Investigation Court, which specializes in integrity case assessments, issued an arrest warrant for the owner of the private company tasked with implementing the project from which the theft occurred, based on provisions outlined in Article 319 of the Penal Code.
Notably, the Federal Integrity Commission had previously announced the arrest of five employees from the Karbala Electricity Department earlier this month for their involvement in the unlawful appropriation of funds in a project linked to the heat sector. This project had been allocated significant financial resources by the Ministry of Electricity and was entrusted to a private firm for execution.
