Qatar Economic Update
In January 2025, the total assets held by commercial banks in Qatar experienced a slight contraction, registering at 2.04 trillion Qatari riyals, as reported by the Qatar Central Bank.
Conversely, deposits across Qatari banks demonstrated robust growth, increasing by 14 billion riyals month-over-month, reaching a cumulative total of 1.04 trillion riyals. This boost was primarily supported by the expansion of non-resident deposits, along with a rise in public sector deposits, which approached 361 billion riyals.
In terms of lending, loans and advances achieved an all-time high in January, amounting to 1.37 trillion riyals. This growth was largely propelled by an increase in loans earmarked for the public sector, totaling approximately 406.8 billion riyals.
