Significant Progress on Road Project Connecting the Grand Port and Umm Qasr
The Director General of the General Company for Iraq Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, has reported significant advancements in the road project that links the Grand Port and Umm Qasr. As of Monday, the project is progressing steadily, achieving an impressive overall completion rate of 97%.
Project Overview
Al-Fartousi detailed that the first layer of the road has been completed on the Al-Faw side, while the second layer has also been finalized. Currently, only portions of the third layer remain, covering 9 kilometers from the second leg and 26 kilometers from the first leg.
Regarding the section of the road extending from Umm Qasr, Al-Fartousi stated that the first layer is fully completed, with only a few tasks remaining on the second layer, as well as the finalization of the third layer.
Safety and Infrastructure Enhancements
The project has also successfully completed all work related to the safety walls along the road, both inbound and outbound. Additionally, lighting provisions between the city of Faw and the submerged tunnel have been installed, alongside essential traffic lights.
Project Specifications
The comprehensive road project is designed to span 62 kilometers and consists of three traffic corridors. It includes three undertakings (or tents), two bridges, and several road intersections. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve traffic flow between the Grand Port and Umm Qasr, thereby facilitating more efficient land transport and streamlining shipping and unloading operations at the port.
This road project represents a critical investment in Iraq’s infrastructure, aiming to bolster the economy by enhancing trade connectivity and operational efficiency.
