On Monday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shi’a Sudani mandated the Integrity Commission to expedite investigations concerning the misconduct of previous retirees and instances of forgery related to transactions involving terrorist victims.
The Prime Minister’s Office indicated in a statement that Prime Minister Sudani has instructed the resolution of all relevant cases under the Integrity Commission’s purview. This includes addressing the investigative matters concerning the National Retirement Authority, which has been criticized for mismanagement of retiree salaries and insufficient collection of dues owed by some retirees, as well as the handling of transactions for victims of terrorism that have been tainted by forgery.
Sudani underscored the critical importance of safeguarding public funds, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy regarding any fraudulent activities that may result in the misallocation of resources or lead to individuals receiving benefits unlawfully. Such transgressions could impede rightful beneficiaries from obtaining their entitlements.
Furthermore, Sudani reiterated his directives to relevant authorities to expedite various measures aimed at enhancing the regulatory and legal framework governing pension distributions. This includes the establishment of a biometric database, a comprehensive review of electronic payment service contracts, the implementation of an accurate and effective methodology for verifying retiree eligibility, and ongoing efforts to recover overpayments made to individuals not entitled to such funds. He also called for rigorous legal action against all parties found to be involved in any misappropriation of public resources as determined by the investigations.
