The Prime Minister of Iraq, Mohamed Shi’a Al-Sudani, convened a meeting today, Wednesday, to assess the ongoing progress of the urban development project in the Adhamiya district of Baghdad.
During this meeting, updates were presented regarding the reconstruction, rehabilitation, and expansion of service facilities in Adhamiya. This initiative is part of a broader campaign initiated by the Prime Minister during his visit to the city in June of the previous year. The comprehensive plan addresses the long-standing issue of limited expansion in the Hanafi area, and focuses on essential service enhancements, infrastructure improvements, the construction of new educational institutions, health centers, and the rehabilitation of roads adjacent to the Tigris River, as well as the development of recreational areas and public parks.
Al-Sudani emphasized that the government-sponsored projects in both Al-Kadhimiya and Al-Adhamiya are part of an expansive governmental strategy aimed at enhancing service levels, particularly in densely populated urban areas distinguished by their historical and religious significance.
The Prime Minister instructed relevant authorities to eliminate any obstacles that hinder development, particularly regarding landscaping issues related to expansion, while also resolving land tenure challenges within the Adhamiya district. This approach is vital for the establishment of additional schools to accommodate the growing resident population.
