Parliamentary Committee Engages with Ministry of Electricity on New Projects

The Parliamentary Electricity and Energy Committee has taken a significant step by exiting a conference hosted by the Ministry of Electricity on Monday morning at the Babylon Hotel, where new projects were set to be announced. The committee’s withdrawal stems from a desire to more closely evaluate the outcomes of previous ministry conferences and the tangible results achieved thus far.

In line with this commitment to oversight, the committee has scheduled an upcoming session for next Wednesday, during which they will host the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel. The purpose of this meeting will be to assess the results of prior conferences and gauge their effectiveness in enhancing the electrical infrastructure within the country.

On the same day, Minister Ziyad Ali Fadel unveiled plans for new energy production projects aimed at achieving an additional capacity of 15,000 megawatts. He also highlighted that Iraq’s energy output has increased by approximately 9,000 megawatts over the past two years, marking a noteworthy advancement in the nation’s electricity production capabilities.

This proactive approach by the committee underscores the importance of accountability and results-oriented governance in the energy sector, reflecting a concerted effort to improve the electrical landscape in Iraq.
