A recent meeting between the Ministry of Oil and Natural Resources of the Kurdistan Regional Government and Ebkour concluded without reaching an agreement on unresolved issues between the two parties. According to a source, “the problems remained the same, and no significant progress has been made in the negotiations.”
This dialogue followed a triple meeting that took place in Baghdad on Sunday, March 2, 2025, with its outcomes presented to Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani during the Federal Council of Ministers meeting on Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
As per the existing agreement between the governments of Iraq and the Kurdistan region, the initial phase involves producing 300,000 barrels of oil daily in the Kurdistan region. Of this total, 185,000 barrels are exported via the port of Jihan, while the remaining 115,000 barrels are allocated for local consumption.
Since March 2023, exports of 400,000 barrels per day from the Kurdistan region have been halted, in addition to 75,000 barrels from Kirkuk through the port of Jihan, following a decision by an international tribunal in Paris favoring the Iraqi federal government.
