New Measures to Prevent Gas Leaks in Northern Oil Operations

Northern Oil Company Initiates Infrastructure Upgrade to Prevent Gas Leaks

An official source within the Northern Oil Company has confirmed that technical and engineering teams are set to initiate the replacement of parts of the natural gas transfer line originating from the Ajil oil field in Salah al-Din Governorate. This proactive measure is aimed at preventing any future gas leaks.

According to the source, the company’s personnel have commenced the replacement of deteriorated clips of the pipeline, which have eroded due to wear and the limitations of the existing network. This initiative is critical to ensuring the continuous pumping of natural gas to their facilities.

The source emphasized that these actions are designed to minimize the risk of leaks, halt any interruptions in gas delivery, and mitigate environmental pollution risks, thereby maintaining a safe working environment.

Moreover, the replacement process is part of a broader effort to modernize the pipeline infrastructure. This upgrade is aimed at preventing leaks similar to those experienced recently, where damage was addressed promptly, allowing for the resumption of gas pumping shortly thereafter.

On February 12, officials from the Salah al-Din Environment Department reported an explosion in one of the natural gas transport pipes from the Ajil oil field, resulting in a widespread gas odor in the surrounding areas of the province. The smell was particularly pronounced in the Dormamams district, affecting a significant portion of Salah al-Din Governorate.

The investigation into the explosion suggested that it was caused by the pipeline’s limitations. Technical crews have since been working diligently to regain control over the gas flow by isolating the source and addressing the corrosion in the pipeline, ultimately facilitating the resumption of gas pumping from the Ajil field to the North Gas Company.

As a follow-up, on February 14, an official from the Northern Oil Company reported that operations in the Ajil oil field had resumed after a two-day halt due to the aforementioned explosion in the gas transport pipeline.
