The Teachers Syndicate, represented by Uday Al-Issawi, announced on Monday that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has prioritized the establishment of modern educational facilities. This marks a significant step in governmental initiatives concerning school construction, which have been described as unprecedented.
Al-Issawi highlighted in a recent statement that the educational sector urgently requires over 10,000 schools to function effectively, aiming to alleviate the burden of excessive working hours and create a conducive learning environment.
He noted the government’s rapid progress in addressing school infrastructure, with over 1,200 schools completed within the last two years. This momentum is essential given the country’s rising population, which necessitates the completion of numerous educational institutions.
Additionally, Al-Issawi emphasized that enhancing the availability of academic resources will redefine the educational landscape in Iraq. He asserted that Iraq possesses the foundational elements for success, including well-qualified educational curricula and talented educators, alongside a diverse student body exhibiting notable intelligence as demonstrated in various student competitions.
The Prime Minister has directed that modern educational neighborhoods in major urban areas become a priority, particularly since over 1.2 million employees are affiliated with the Ministry of Education. This considerable number underscores the need for dedicated living spaces for educational personnel.
Al-Issawi further indicated that the union has received approval from the Prime Minister to instruct governors to allocate land for developing residential communities for educational staff. A collaborative committee has been established with the Ministry of Education to oversee land distribution. Notably, two projects have already seen success under the Prime Minister’s directive, approving the rehabilitation or allocation of 10,000 plots of land in Al-Muthanna and Wasit Governorates for educational occupants.
On a related note, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani expressed his appreciation for educational professionals in recognition of Teacher’s Day during a meeting with a delegation from the Teachers Syndicate. He reiterated the government’s commitment to the education sector, addressing ongoing challenges and highlighting that the Ministry of Education has achieved 80% of its targets within the government program—a testament to collective efforts. He assured support for the educational community in fulfilling its responsibilities and pledged legal action against any offenses toward teachers.
