Ministry of Electricity Dismisses Projects to Alleviate Bottlenecks in Al-Sadr and Rusafa Sectors

On Saturday, the Ministry of Electricity announced the cancellation of projects aimed at resolving electrical bottlenecks in the Al-Sadr and Rusafa sectors. In a formal statement, Minister of Electricity Ziyad Ali Fadel reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing discussions with regional distribution departments to review the progress of plans intended to enhance the electrical network’s efficiency.

An extensive meeting was convened with distribution managers from both Rusafa and Al-Sadr, alongside the general manager of Baghdad Electricity and directors from the ministry’s general technical and planning departments. During this meeting, Minister Fadel focused on the specifics of the emergency plan for the upcoming summer, addressing issues related to land allocation for new stations in collaboration with Baghdad Municipality.

The bottleneck resolution projects for Al-Sadr and Rusafa included:

  • Construction of 23 prefabricated stations within the Sadr distribution area.
  • Establishment of 14 prefabricated stations in the Rusafa distribution area.
  • Completion of 13 prefabricated and mobile stations serving the Karkh, Rusafa, and Al-Sadr branches.
  • Finalization of the operation of five fixed stations, each with a capacity of 231.5 MVA, across the Karkh, Rusafa, and Al-Sadr branches.
  • Creation of over 88 power feeding lines at 33 kV to enhance station operations.
  • Installation of stations over a distance of 518 km at 11 kV.
  • Construction of 2,325 transformer stations with voltages of 110.4 kV and 400 kV.
  • Establishment of 124 facilities with a voltage of 110.4 kV and a capacity of 630 kVA.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted that eight prefabricated stations have been deployed within the Al-Sadr electricity distribution branch to effectively address emergency bottlenecks. According to the minister, the Ministry remains dedicated to fulfilling its plans within established timelines to ensure the electrical system is fully prepared for increased demand in the upcoming summer season.
