Ministry of Communications Lacks Authority Over Mobile Companies

Economy Update – Baghdad

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Communications announced its limitations regarding the enforcement of legal and financial actions against mobile telecommunications providers.

In a recent statement, the Ministry clarified that the licensing agreements with mobile operators, namely Asia, Zain, and Cork, fall under the jurisdiction of the Media and Communications Authority rather than the Ministry itself.

The Ministry emphasized, “It lacks the authority to implement legal or financial sanctions related to these three mobile companies.” Its role is restricted to implementing technical measures that are pursuant to directives established by the Media and Communications Authority, which exclusively involve service blockages.
