Ministry of Commerce Targets Local Market with New Stores

Economy News – Baghdad

The General Company for the Trading of Structures under the Ministry of Commerce is actively pursuing necessary approvals aimed at regulating import licenses and curbing market dumping. Concurrently, the company is focusing on establishing commercial malls across various governorates, offering products at prices 20% lower than local market levels.

Eng. Areej Al-Jumaili, the company’s director, emphasized in a recent interview that “the company is committed to forming partnerships with stakeholders interested in accessing new markets and attracting investments to achieve self-sufficiency and maximize revenue.”

She further explained that “the company, part of the Ministry of Commerce, aims to secure sectoral approvals that would allow the designated authority to regulate the importation of construction materials, preventing the local market from being inundated with substandard products.”

Al-Jumaili noted that “certain governorates are prepared to develop commercial malls for the purpose of showcasing the company’s products, aimed at attracting companies, commercial agents, and consumers to purchase high-quality materials for residential and public construction.”

She continued, stating that “the company is working to upgrade and expand its stores in various governorates and is investing in its land to generate profits and achieve self-sufficiency.” Al-Jumaili highlighted that “the company has supplied significant quantities of construction materials, with citizens able to access offers via the electronic portal. There is also collaboration among construction, iron, and steel material companies in Basra to provide reinforcing steel and market it effectively across provinces.”

The director confirmed that “the company offers innovative materials and construction supplies sourced from reliable vendors at competitive rates, being 20% cheaper than local market prices. Investment partnerships are being established with companies, commercial entities, and manufacturers interested in marketing their products domestically while fostering collaboration with governorates to support investment initiatives and provide necessary construction materials.”

Additionally, she indicated the establishment of a partnership with a private sector firm in Nineveh to construct a marketing exhibition along with commercial stores and treasury squares, which will follow the refurbishment of a significant market intended for the sale of construction materials—set to open soon. Al-Jumaili mentioned that “the company operates a fleet of vehicles designed to transport construction materials, working in coordination with the ministry’s transport department to facilitate deliveries to citizens wishing to make purchases.”
