Minister Fadel Pushes Fast Track for Iraq-Gulf Power Project

Economy News – Baghdad

Electricity Minister Ziad Ali Fadel has called for a round-the-clock intensification of efforts to expedite the Gulf linking project with Iraq.

A statement from the Minister’s office indicated that Minister Fadel has been tasked with accelerating the project’s completion in alignment with directives from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani. To ensure effective progress monitoring, periodic reports will be prepared every 15 days.
During a recent meeting with a delegation from the Gulf Cooperation Council Authority, led by Sheikh Ahmed Al-Ibrahimi, ways to expedite the electrical linking project were discussed. The representatives confirmed that work on the project will continue, with Iraq set to receive electrical energy from the Kuwaiti Al-Wafra station to the Iraqi Al-Faw Station.
The linking line on the Iraqi side spans from the Safwan border crossing to the Al-Faw station, covering a total length of 77 km. Recently completed sections include a 22 km stretch from Safwan to the Shatt al-Basra crossing. Currently, 50 km of the remaining 54 km path from Shatt al-Basra to the Al-Faw station has undergone surveying and the removal of war debris, with civil works and tower installation imminent for this segment. Coordination efforts with the Ministry of Defense are underway to secure specialized equipment for surveying and clearing the remaining four kilometers.
