The American parent company of Facebook and Instagram has reached an agreement to pay approximately $25 million to settle a lawsuit initiated by former President Donald Trump. This lawsuit stemmed from the company’s decision to suspend Trump’s accounts following the insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.

Trump’s legal actions included lawsuits against Twitter, now referred to as X, Meta, and Google, targeting the respective leaders of these corporations. He alleged that these platforms engaged in unlawful suppressive practices against conservative viewpoints.

The suspension of Trump’s accounts on Facebook and Instagram occurred after the aforementioned incidents, particularly following his remarks that falsely claimed widespread fraud was the reason for his electoral defeat.

Under the terms of this settlement, $22 million will be allocated to the Trump Presidential Fund, while the remainder will be directed towards covering legal fees and compensating other plaintiffs involved in the case.
